How does it work? We use extremely high-speed wireless networking equipment (up to 300Mbps) to interconnect several towers to our network operations center. Customer-premise equipment consists of a fairly small (about 3"x12") two-way radio unit and directional antenna mounted at the customer's residence or business that maintains a constant connection to one of these towers. How fast is it? The actual speed depends in part on the quality of the radio connection, which in turn depends on how close you are to one of our towers and how clear the line of sight is to that tower. The lowest speed will be at least 1.5Mbps down and 512kbps up. (that's about 35x dial-up speed) The highest speed will be up to 3.5Mbps down and 1Mbps up. (about 80x dial-up speed) How much does it cost? Installation is $129.95. Residential service is $32.95 monthly, Business service is $52.95 monthly. Installation fee and first month's service (prorated - we bill per calendar month) must be paid at time of installation. If you have one of our alarm systems with monitoring service a discount applies - ask for details. Where does it work? Anywhere within range of one of our towers that has line-of-sight (or close to it) of that tower - this specifically includes rural areas that are still unserved by more familiar broadband services requiring miles of wiring. For a more informative (but still incomplete) answer you can take a look at our tower map. NOTE: If you are within one of the colored sectors surrounding a tower that means you may be able to get service - we cannot usually offer a definitive "yes" without first testing our equipment at your location, since as mentioned it depends upon the quality of signal we are able to achieve. If the signal quality is marginal we consider the installation unworkable and there is no charge for the site survey. If your location is "just outside" such an area don't give up - the map is approximate, not definitive. What are the computer requirements? Any Windows, Mac, or Linux computer with an ethernet connector, OR any such computer with a wireless networking card plus a wireless router connected to the ethernet cable leading from our equipment. We do not charge extra for multiple computers connected at a single location. Before we consider an installation complete we ensure that at least one computer at the premises has a fully-working broadband connection. If you have special needs (such as needing an ethernet card or wireless router, or an office-full of computers sharing a connection) call us to discuss how this is handled. How does it compare to other broadband services? The download speed is comparable to that offered by DSL and Cable internet service providers (up to 3.5Mbps typically) within their "best service" areas, while the upload speed significantly exceeds that of most DSL and Cable offerings. (approximately 1Mbps)
