Setup, Troubleshooting, and general information about E-Mail

To set up your @escwireless.com email account in Microsoft Outlook (NOT Outlook Express):

(for other domains hosted at ESCWireless follow the same instructions but substitute your domain name, for example replace "escwireless.com" with "etiw.net" everywhere)

Start up Outlook and select "Email Accounts" from the "Tools" menu.

In the window that opens select "Add new email account" and click "Next".  Then select "POP3" and again click "Next".

In the new window that appears, we need to fill in all the fields. When finished it should look something like the picture here, except username will of course be different. (click to zoom in) {yuizoom email/outlooksetup1-t.png|email/outlooksetup1.png||} Note that you will need to add the @escwireless.com part after "User Name" as Outlook automatically fills in ONLY the username part.  Before clicking "Next" we need to click "More Settings".   In the "Internet Email Settings" window this opens we first want to give the account a meaningful name on the "General" tab - this is just for your convenience so you can tell the difference if you have more than one email account set up in Outlook. Now select the "Outgoing Server" tab at the top. {yuizoom email/outlooksetup3-t.png|email/outlooksetup3.png||}  In this tab you need a check in the box next to "My outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication".  Now click "OK" and this window will close, then click "Next" in the "Email Accounts" window, then "Finish".

Now you can click on "Send/Receive" in the main menu bar and it should correctly connect and retrieve any email waiting on the server.  If it informs you of an error then see "email troubleshooting", otherwise you are finished.

To set up your @escwireless.com email account with Microsoft Outlook Express:

(for other domains hosted at ESCWireless follow the same instructions but substitute your domain name, for example replace "escwireless.com" with "etiw.net" everywhere)

Start up Outlook Express and select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu. {yuizoom email/oesetup1.png|email/oesetup1.png||}

In the window that opens select "Add..."->"Mail", and it will start the "Internet Connection Wizard" - in the first page give it a name (for your reference only) and click "Next". {yuizoom email/oesetup2-t.png|email/oesetup2.png||} {yuizoom email/oesetup3-t.png|email/oesetup3.png||}

In the next window enter your complete email address, and again click "Next".{yuizoom email/oesetup4-t.png|email/oesetup4.png||}

Enter "mail.escwireless.com" as both Incoming and Outgoing mail server, and once again click "Next".{yuizoom email/oesetup5-t.png|email/oesetup5.png||}

The next window needs your full email address (not just username) and password, then (you guessed it!) click "Next". {yuizoom email/oesetup6-t.png|email/oesetup6.png||}  At this point Outlook Express will act as though you're finished setting up, but there's one more setting we need to change, so click "Finish" on the "Congratulations" window.

In the "Internet Accounts" window, click the 'Mail' tab if not already selected, then click the mail account we just created, in the list.  Either double-click, right-click and select "Properties", or click once then click the "Properties" button on the righ.  (all three roads lead the same place)  Select the "Servers" tab in the Properties window, and place a check in the box near the bottom next to "My server requires authentication", then click "OK".  Finally, click "Close" in the "Internet Accounts" window and you are finished.{yuizoom email/oesetup7.png|email/oesetup7.png||}

Now you can click on "Send/Receive" in the main menu bar and it should correctly connect and retrieve any email waiting on the server.  If it informs you of an error then see "email troubleshooting", otherwise you are finished.

If you receive internet service from us then you can also use an @escwireless.com email address.  If you want an email address but have not yet requested it, contact us and we will be happy to create the account for you.

You can access your email with a web browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox for example) by simply browsing to mail.escwireless.com.  Most people are more familiar with using an Email Client such as Outlook Express, Outlook or Thunderbird.  To use such a program you will need to add a new account to the program's settings.  Below are links to specific instructions for each of those three programs.  If you have another program you are more comfortable with contact us and we can try to help you with setup, but understand that while email communications are standardized we cannot guarantee that we will be able to help with any particular program apart from the three mentioned.

The general configuration requirements are to create a new account, using "mail.escwireless.com" as both inbound (or POP3) and outbound (or SMTP) mailservers, your full email address (such as 'support@escwireless.com') and password.  For the most reliable functioning you should also tell the program that your outbound (SMTP) server requires authentication, and to use the same username and password as the inbound (POP3) server. (SMTP authentication is not strictly required right now if you are on our network, but if you connect from somewhere else it is necessary)

Specific instructions are available for Microsoft Outlook Express (included with Windows up to Windows XP), Microsoft Outlook (part of Microsoft Office) and Thunderbird.  (part of the free Mozilla suite - descendant of Netscape -  that includes the Firefox web browser, available for Windows, Mac, and preinstalled with many Linux operating systems) To set up Windows Mail in Windows Vista, follow the instructions provided by Microsoft - you will need your email address and password, set the POP3 and SMTP servers to "mail.escwireless.com", and tell it the SMTP server requires authentication.

 Windows 7 does NOT include an email application.  You need to choose a mail program yourself or use our webmail at http://mail.escwireless.com.  Options for a mail client would include Thunderbird, or you can choose to install Windows Live and then use the Windows Live Email support.  As with Windows Mail setup, follow the instructions provided by Microsoft for configuring, and use your escwireless.com email address and password, POP3 and SMTP server of "mail.escwireless.com", and tell it SMTP server requires authentication.

To set up your @escwireless.com email in Thunderbird:

(for other domains hosted at ESCWireless follow the same instructions but substitute your domain name, for example replace "escwireless.com" with "etiw.net" everywhere)

Select the menu item "Account Settings" from the "Edit" menu.

In the "Account Settings" window that opens, click "Add Account" to start the "Account Wizard".  (If this is the first time running Thunderbird it will usually start this for you)

Select "Email Account" and click "Next". Enter your name and your full email address then click "Next". {yuizoom email/tbirdsetup1-t.png|email/tbirdsetup1.png||}

Enter "mail.escwireless.com" for both incoming and outgoing mail servers and click "Next".  (Note: If you already have another account configured, Thunderbird might not ask for the outgoing server here - if not just continue and we'll address it later) {yuizoom email/tbirdsetup2-t.png|email/tbirdsetup2.png||}

Enter your full email address for "Incoming user name" and click "Next", then give the account a meaningful name (for your convenience) and click "Next" again. {yuizoom email/tbirdsetup3-t.png|email/tbirdsetup3.png||}  Double-check everything on the "Congratulations" window and click "Finish" if it looks correct, or "Back" to return one step at a time and correct something. {yuizoom email/tbirdsetup4-t.png|email/tbirdsetup4.png||}

At this point you should be finished, unless the "outgoing server" was missing from step 2.  If that was the case, then in the "Account Settings" window click on "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"  then click "New" and fill in the form with a "Description" (for your convenience), "Server Name" (mail.escwireless.com), put a check in the box next to "Use name and password" and enter your full email address in "User Name".  Also select "no" for "Use secure connection".  Double-check everything then click "OK".{yuizoom email/tbirdsetup5-t.png|email/tbirdsetup5.png||}

Then (if you followed the extra "Outgoing Server" step above) you need to  click on your email address in the left-hand list and select the newly-configured "Outgoing Server" in the drop-down box to the right. {yuizoom email/tbirdsetup6-t.png|email/tbirdsetup6.png||}

Finally, click "OK".  Everything should be ready at this point.  The first time you click "Get Mail" it will ask for your password.  You can check off "Use password manager to remember this password" and it will do so (as long as the first connection succeeds) otherwise it will ask for your password each time.

If you receive an error message when you try to get or send mail then see "email troubleshooting" for additional help.

{yuizoom email/tbirdsetup6-t.png|email/tbirdsetup6.png||}

If you access your email with a web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox, for example) then it should work fine - if not then contact the provider of the email service.  If you use an email client (such as Outlook Express, Outlook, or Thunderbird) then you can run into problems if your email address is not at escwireless.com or a domain hosted with us: in order to reduce spam emails on the internet, we generally block connections that are trying to send email directly to the internet.  Why?  Because some viruses and trojans infecting computers can spew out tens of thousands of spam emails without the computer owner even being aware.

If your email service is provided by someone other that Electronics Service Co, find out if they have a Webmail interface available (log in and handle email in web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer) and if so give it a try - you may find you like it better.  (Ours, by the way, is at http://mail.escwireless.com)

If webmail is unacceptable or unavailable, contact us and provide the SMTP server name (check Account settings for the email account in your email program, SMTP is the outbound or sending side of email processing) and we will look for a solution.
